Community Nutrition and Food Safety Research Internship in Cambodia
12-25 June, 2015
Tour Co-ordinators: Dr. Popsy POON
Seven Nutrition and Food Management Concentration Studies students visited Cambodia for a two week Community Nutrition and Food Safety Research Internship. It was a great opportunity for them to gain overseas exposure by participating in seminars, visits, food production and farming, to understand the diet and health condition of local people and to apply knowledge learned from class.
Students valued the opportunity to join a seminar about strategic research to improve health conditions of Cambodians with local youngsters, students from the University of Hong Kong and representatives from Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations. Ways on how to deal with food safety and environmental health problems have been discussed, while students have presented the benefits of organic farming and how it could help to improve local people’s living standard.
