Admission Requirements

For Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) applicants, the admission requirements are:

^ If one of the subjects is Citizenship and Social Development (CSD), the minimum admission requirement for CSD would be "Attained".

* Applied Learning subjects can be used for admission purposes:

1. "Attained" is deemed to have achieved "Level 2";
2. "Attained with Distinction (I)" is deemed to have achieved "Level 3”; and
3. "Attained with Distinction (II)" is deemed to have achieved "Level 4".

^# For non-Chinese speaking (NCS) HKDSE candidates fulfilling one of the specified conditions in “Note 1”, the following alternative Chinese Language qualifications are recognised by the College of International Education as equivalent to the HKDSE Chinese Language:

1. Grade E or above in GCE A/AS Level Chinese; or
2. Grade C or above in GCSE/IGCSE/GCE O-Level Chinese; or
3. "Attained" or above in Applied Learning Chinese (ApL(C)).

Note 1: The specified conditions are:
(a). The candidates have learned Chinese Language for less than six years while receiving primary and secondary education; or
(b). The candidates have learned Chinese Language for six years or more in schools, but have been taught an adapted and simpler curriculum not normally applicable to the majority of students in local schools.

Instrument Requirement for Music Studies: Grade 8 in practical examination of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) or equivalent in standard. Applicants are required to attend and pass the audition. The list of instruments is as follows:

• Piano
• Voice
• String (Violin, Viola, Cello and Double Bass)
• Winds (Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon and Saxophone)
• Brass (Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba and Euphonium)

Applicants are required to provide the following information and/or supporting documents in application. If the required documents could not be provided, applicants should provide the documents during or after admission interviews by requests.

Key Dates

Interview Arrangement

1. For applicants choosing the following Concentration Studies as their first choice, the interview arrangements are:
   • Music Studies (Only shortlisted applicants will be notified of audition/interview arrangement)
   • Sport and Recreation Studies (Some applicants may be invited for admission interview)
   • Visual Arts (Applicants should submit a portfolio at the time of admission interview)
2. Applicants will be notified by email / SMS / phone call about 7 days in advance if they are invited to attend an interview. The interview date and venue will be provided in the notification.
3. Applicants who require any special arrangements in the admission interview may make their requests with justifications/reasons by email to applycie@hkbu.edu.hk at least 3 working days in advance of the interview date.
