Music Studies

Shortlisted applicants for Music Studies will be notified of interview and audition arrangement by phone and/or email after submitting the application.
Instrumental requirement for Music Studies: Grade 8 in practical examination of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) or equivalent in standard. Applicants are required to attend and pass the audition.
Applicants are expected to attend the interview and audition in person (no online arrangement):
Piano
Voice
String (Violin, Viola, Cello and Double Bass)
Winds (Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon and Saxophone)
Brass (Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba and Euphonium)
Admission to Music Studies is subject to availability of places.
Sport and Recreation Studies

Applicants choosing Sport and Recreation Studies as their first choice should input their sports achievements and upload related supporting documents via the CIE Online Application System. Some applicants may also be invited to attend an interview.
Shortlisted applicants for Sport and Recreation Studies will be notified of interview arrangement by phone and/or email after submitting the application.
Admission Interview will be conducted online.
Admission to Sport and Recreation Studies is subject to availability of places.
Visual Arts

Applicants for Visual Arts will be notified of interview arrangement by phone and/or email after submitting the application.
Applicants are expected to attend the interview in person (no online arrangement). Applicants should submit a portfolio at the time of admission interview.
Admission to Visual Arts is subject to availability of places.
Admission Requirements
To be considered and assessed by the College of International Education on a case-by-case basis:
International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, General Certificate of Education Advanced Level (GCE-AL), Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT).

Required Information and Documents
Applicants are required to provide the following information and/or supporting documents in application. If the required documents could not be provided, applicants should provide the documents during or after admission interviews by requests.

Students with non-HKDSE qualifications admitted to the Associate Degree Programme may apply for transfer of units at the point of admission. Please click here for details of transfer of units.
Admission interviews will be arranged from March to August. Applicants who are shortlisted to attend an admission interview will be notified by email and/or SMS about 7 days in advance. The interview date and venue will be provided in the notification.
Interview Format
The interview will be conducted in English in small groups of 3 to 6 people. The format for Music Studies and Sport and Recreation Studies (Associate Degree) may be an individual interview. Language proficiency, communication skills and general knowledge will be assessed.
Shortlisted applicants for Music Studies (Associate Degree) are required to attend an audition and interview.
Shortlisted applicants for Visual Arts (Associate Degree) should submit a portfolio at the time of the admission interview.
Applicants who require any special arrangements for the admission interview may make their requests with justifications/reasons by email to applycie@hkbu.edu.hk at least 3 working days in advance of the interview date.
Visa Application
The College will assist non-local applicants in applying for the student visa once acceptance of the admission offer is confirmed.
Non-local applicants are required to obtain a student visa / an entry permit in order to study in Hong Kong. It normally takes around six to eight weeks to complete the process.

Studying Associate of Arts (Creative Communication), HKBU
CIE's teachers and classmates are amiable and actively answer my questions after class. The teachers are passionate in class and patient after class. I like the state of life in the College, and I hope I can successfully articulate to the Communication’s Undergraduate Degree Programme after two years!
Students are encouraged to participate in different learning activities provided by CIE and the University. The Non-local Students Support Group organises a range of activities to facilitate students’ adjustment to the teaching and learning mode at CIE, including Exam Preparation Guidance Session, Interview Skills Workshop and Mid-Autumn Festival gatherings, etc.
Orientation and Accommodation Information
Various support services and accommodation information are provided for non-local students to help them make the most of their college experience. At the beginning of the semester, the College will provide orientations and introduce new students to the academic, social and cultural life at CIE.
English Enhancement
English is the medium of instruction at CIE. A non-credit bearing English Enhancement Course will be offered to mainland students during their first year of study. The course helps students to acquire the practical knowledge of English and develop essential skills at using English for tertiary-level learning, gradually building their confidence in communicating with the international language across different settings.
Enrichment Courses
CIE offers the following enrichment courses to increase our students’ language proficiency:
Cantonese in Daily Life
IELTS Preparation Module I (Reading and Speaking)
IELTS Preparation Module II (Writing and Listening)
Students will be taught critical language skills to facilitate active participation in the AD curriculum as well as taking IELTS, one of the most recognised international standardised tests of English language proficiency.
