This honours programme is offered by the College of International Education, Hong Kong Baptist University and developed primarily to provide pathways for accounting/business Associate Degree (AD) or Higher Diploma (HD) graduates to advance studies to degree level in accountancy.

Programme Features

Professional Recognition*

Programme Structure

The Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) in Accountancy Programme consists of 43 core units, 21 accounting required units, 31 general education units and 33 units electives under the four-year curriculum structure.

Students with Associate Degree or Higher Diploma qualifications will normally be admitted directly into the third year of study to complete the 69-unit programme in two years. In this connection, students are required to complete 21 units of Core Courses, 21 units of Accounting Required Courses, 24 units of Free Elective as well as 3 units of General Education Capstone Course.

General Education# / Free Elective Courses♦ (24 units)

The General Education (GE) Programme is designed to equip students with integrated broad-based knowledge, transferable core skills, guiding principles, and attitudes that they need in both their specialized studies and future professional and personal lives. Our GE asks students to open up their minds to new ideas and perspectives, imagine possibilities, and acquire a deeper understanding of people and issues through making connections at personal, societal and historical levels. It cultivates our students to become well-rounded persons capable of fully participating in the fast-changing, interconnected global world.

Core (22 units)

Core requirements courses which are designed to provide students with the transferable skills, attitudes and values that will help them lead balanced and successful lives both during their university education and after.

The four courses in the basic disciplines of accounting and economics are the foundations upon which subsequent advanced work in the concentrations and business electives can be built; hence the heavy weighting given to them in the first year. Every effort is made to integrate the different parts of the curriculum into a coherent whole.

    ♦ Graduates from Associate Degree and Higher Diploma programmes in accounting or business can be exempted from five Year-One ad Year-Two elective courses, if they have already studied other Level 1 or Level 2 business and / or non-business courses in their previous studies and approved for exemption by the Programme.

    # Graduates from Associate Degree and Higher Diploma programmes in accounting or business are normally admitted directly into Year-Three of this programme, with Year-One and Year-Two of study being exempted.

     

    Remarks:
    1. The number of courses/units the students are required to complete will depend on the number of courses/units for which exemption and/or unit transfer will be granted. All unit transfer or course exemption shall be considered on a case-by-case basis upon admission. Students are required to complete all programme prerequisites, University Core and GE courses to meet the graduation requirements.
    2. Unit transfer equivalent to 24 units of GE/Free Elective courses will be considered by the Programme management on a case-by-case basis.
    3. Make-up courses may be required on admission.
    4. Students are required to complete a non-credit bearing University Life programme.

    Admissions Requirements

    To be eligible for admission, a candidate should hold

    • a relevant Associate Degree (AD) from any of the local/overseas recognised institutions; or
    • a relevant Higher Diploma (HD) from any recognised institutions

    Candidates who possess equivalent qualifications are to be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

    Students are expected to complete all programme prerequisites and GE courses in their Associate Degree / Higher Diploma studies. Otherwise, they may have to complete additional units of study to make up for the programme prerequisites and GE courses at College of International Education (CIE), Hong Kong Baptist University.

    Campus

    Students will attend all classes at the University’s Kowloon Tong Shaw Campus in academic year 2022/23 and at Shek Mun (Shatin) campus in academic year 2023/24. Students of this Programme have full access to the library, sports and all other facilities of the University.

    Located at Shaw Campus, the Main Library at HKBU serves all HKBU staff and students, and occupies seven floors of the building. The Library has a multimedia learning centre and a comprehensive collection of Chinese and Western books, periodicals, non-print materials and newspaper clippings. Students are eligible to use an interlibrary loan service. The Learning Commons strives to facilitate students’ individual, collaborative and interactive learning through the provision of a conducive and user-friendly environment. Sports facilities offer our students a chance to participate in recreational activities with fellow students and lead a balanced lifestyle.

    For Shek Mun (Shatin) Campus, which is located next to the Shek Mun Station of MTR Tuen Ma Line. With a gross floor area of 30,000m2, the campus provides full university facilities, including indoor heated swimming pool, gymnasium, fitness room, dance room, auditorium, multimedia laboratories, library and learning commons. Special learning facilities such as bioeco laboratory, creative science laboratory, food sensory laboratory, testing and analytical laboratory, food and nutritional science laboratory, active living laboratory, social science research laboratory, media communication laboratory, psychology laboratory and child assessment centre are also set up to provide students with practical experiences in their areas of study.

    Tuition Fee

    Local: HKD91,080 per year
    Students are required to complete 69 units in two years at HKD2,640 per unit (Total HKD182,160)
    Non-local: HKD117,300 per year
    Students are required to complete 69 units in two years at HKD3,400 per unit (Total HKD234,600)

    The annual tuition fee is paid in two equal instalments, normally before the start of the first and the second semesters. For newly enrolled undergraduate students, HKD15,000 of the first instalment plus some fees will have to be paid by the applicants for acceptance of their admission offers and the balance will have to be paid in late August. Students are required to pay full tuition fees per semester during the normal period of study, regardless of the number of units enrolled in the semester.

    For students who are required to take make-up course(s) to fulfil the programme prerequisites, University Core and/or GE courses, additional tuition fee for the make-up course(s) will be charged at HKD1,955 per unit.

     

    Financial Assistance

    Full-time local students may apply for the Financial Assistance Scheme for Post-secondary Students (FASP) and the Non-means-tested Loan Scheme for Post-secondary Students (NLSPS) administered by the Student Finance Office (SFO) under the Working Family and Student Financial Assistance Agency (WFSFAA), HKSAR Government. For more information, students should contact the SFO or visit its website at www.wfsfaa.gov.hk.

    Three of the courses offered by the Programme are eligible for reimbursement under the Continuing Education Fund (CEF). Eligible students completing the courses may apply for the Fund and receive subsidy with a ceiling of
    HKD20,000.

    The University accepts both online and paper application. Applicants may apply for more than one programme if they wish to. A non-refundable and non-transferable application fee will be charged for EACH applied programme.

    Online Application:
    Applicants should submit the application through our website and are required to settle the application fee (HKD450) via online payment gateway (credit card, PPS online or Mobile Payment) before the application deadline.     Paper Application:
